From Lawn and Paving to a Proper Outdoor Living Space

The original garden had a large lawn with smaller paved areas around the house. The brief was not simply to replace one patio with another; the new layout needed to create a much larger, more useful entertaining area while keeping enough lawn to soften the garden.

The answer was a flowing layout rather than a basic rectangle. The sweeping charcoal block border follows the garden and wraps around the retained grass, giving the finished patio a much more deliberate, designed appearance.

Built Properly From the Ground Up

This was a full installation rather than an overlay. The existing surface and ground were excavated, levels were established and a compacted sub-base was installed. We then laid a no-fines concrete base before applying the final resin-bound surface.

That preparation matters. The finished resin is only the visible part of the job; the long-term performance depends heavily on the structure underneath, the levels, the edging and the quality of the installation.

Why the Curved Charcoal Border Works

The dark charcoal blocks give a strong contrast against the lighter Arizona resin and green lawn. More importantly, the curve prevents the new patio from feeling like a large slab of hard landscaping. It guides the eye through the garden and makes the resin feel integrated with the original layout.

Arizona Resin Close-Up

Arizona gives a warm, natural finish with a mix of cream, beige, tan and darker stone. On this property it works particularly well against the buff stonework of the house, while the charcoal blocks add definition around the edge.
