The resin binder used in resin-bound surfacing affects how the finished driveway behaves and looks over time. One important distinction is between UV-stable and non-UV-stable resin systems.
What Does UV-Stable Mean?
A UV-stable resin system is formulated to resist colour change caused by ultraviolet exposure. This is particularly relevant when the appearance of a light or colour-sensitive aggregate blend needs to remain consistent.
What Can Happen With Non-UV Resin?
Non-UV-stable binders can change colour after exposure to sunlight. The degree to which that is noticeable depends on the resin system and aggregate colour. This does not mean every colour change is a structural failure, but customers should know which system is being quoted.
Why Aggregate Colour Matters
A change in binder tone can be more noticeable with some lighter aggregate blends than with darker stone. Colour choice and resin specification should therefore be considered together rather than separately.
Ask What Resin System Is Included
A resin quotation should identify the proposed system clearly. Price comparisons are less useful if one quotation specifies a different binder, base construction, resin depth or groundwork scope.
