Resin Driveway Aftercare & Maintenance

Resin Driveway Aftercare & Maintenance

A correctly installed resin-bound driveway is relatively low-maintenance, but sensible care helps it keep its appearance and reduces avoidable damage. This guide explains the practical aftercare we recommend for Solid Ground resin driveways and patios.

Normal use

Resin driveways are intended for normal pedestrian use and domestic vehicle traffic appropriate to the agreed specification. Avoid dragging skips, sharp metal objects or very heavy point loads directly across the surface.

Avoid dry turning

Do not turn the steering wheel while a vehicle is stationary on the resin surface. This is often called dry turning. The grinding action of stationary tyres can mark or gouge the surface, particularly in warm weather or with heavy vehicles.

Routine cleaning

Regularly sweep away leaves, soil, grit and other debris. An occasional wash with clean water and a soft or medium broom will normally be sufficient. A mild household detergent can be used where necessary, followed by a thorough rinse.

Pressure washing

A pressure washer may be used carefully, but it should not be held very close to the surface or concentrated on one point. Use a fan-type spray where possible and work evenly across the area. Aggressive jet washing can damage resin surfaces and joints.

Weeds, moss and algae

Resin-bound surfaces can reduce weed growth, but no external surface can be guaranteed completely weed-free. Wind-borne seeds may germinate in accumulated dirt or organic material. Regular sweeping reduces this. Suitable domestic weed, moss or algae treatments may be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, followed by rinsing where required.

Oil, fuel and spillages

Deal with spillages promptly. Absorb or wash away light contamination using an appropriate mild cleaner and plenty of water. Avoid strong solvents or chemicals that may attack the resin binder. For severe contamination, contact us before using specialist chemicals.

Cement, concrete and building work

Protect the resin surface if other building work is taking place nearby. Cement, mortar, plaster, paint and other construction materials can stain or damage the surface. Do not place scaffold feet, skips or jacks directly onto the resin without suitable load-spreading protection.

Ice and frost

Snow and ice may be cleared using a plastic shovel or soft tool that will not gouge the surface. Avoid sharp metal tools. If de-icing products are used, choose products suitable for external resin-bound surfaces and rinse residues away when conditions allow.

Chewing gum and stubborn marks

For stubborn contamination, start with the least aggressive suitable cleaning method. Do not use harsh solvents without checking compatibility with the resin system first.

Small repairs

Local resin repairs are sometimes possible, but because natural aggregates and exposed surfaces vary, a repaired area may remain visible or differ slightly in colour or texture from the surrounding driveway.

What to do if you notice a problem

If you see unusual movement, cracking, local delamination or another issue that you believe may relate to the installation, take photographs and contact Solid Ground before attempting a repair yourself. Qualifying installations may be covered by our 5-Year Resin Workmanship Warranty.
