A newly laid resin-bound driveway needs to cure before it is opened to pedestrians or vehicles. There is no responsible universal time that overrides the resin manufacturer’s instructions and the conditions on the day of installation.
Why Curing Time Varies
Resin chemistry, temperature and installation conditions influence curing. The installer should follow the product specification and tell the customer when the surface can be used.
Walking on Fresh Resin
Pedestrian access should remain restricted until the installer confirms the surface has cured sufficiently. Walking on it too early can mark the finish.
Driving and Parking
Vehicle loading is more demanding than foot traffic. Cars should stay off the driveway until the stated vehicle cure period has passed. Avoid assuming that a surface which feels hard enough to walk on is automatically ready for vehicles.
Weather and Temperature
Conditions can affect both installation and curing. Resin should be installed within the requirements of the selected system, and a responsible installer may alter the programme when conditions are unsuitable.
After the Driveway Opens
Follow the installer’s aftercare advice and deal with spills or damage promptly. See our aftercare guide and cleaning guide.
