Resin Driveway Overlays in Manchester

Already have a sound concrete or tarmac driveway? A resin-bound overlay can transform it with less excavation when the existing base is genuinely suitable.

Genuine customer reviews & recommendations · 5-Year Workmanship Warranty on qualifying resin installations

Every existing surface is assessed first. We only recommend an overlay where the base is stable, suitably constructed and capable of supporting the new resin system. If the existing driveway is unsuitable, we will explain why and recommend the correct preparation rather than simply covering over a problem.

What Is a Resin Driveway Overlay?

A resin overlay is the installation of a new resin-bound surface over a suitable existing base rather than excavating and rebuilding the entire driveway. The existing surface still has to be carefully inspected and prepared. Cracks, loose areas, drainage, levels, edges and the condition of the substrate all matter.

Where the base is genuinely suitable, an overlay can provide a smart, seamless finish with less excavation, less waste and a shorter installation programme than a complete dig-out.

Can Resin Be Laid Over Concrete or Tarmac?

Resin can be installed over some existing concrete and tarmac surfaces, but suitability depends on the condition and construction of the base. A surface that is moving, badly cracked, contaminated, poorly drained or failing underneath should not simply be hidden beneath resin.

For a more detailed explanation of different existing surfaces, read our guide: Can Resin Be Laid Over Concrete, Tarmac or Block Paving?

When Is an Overlay a Good Option?

  • The existing base is structurally sound and stable.
  • Levels allow the correct finished height at doors, garages and pavement edges.
  • Drainage can be maintained or improved where required.
  • There are no significant areas of movement or base failure.
  • The surface can be prepared to provide a reliable bond for the resin system.

When We Would Recommend a Full Rebuild Instead

An overlay is not automatically the cheapest or best solution. If the existing driveway is unstable, badly cracked, holding water, breaking up or has unsuitable levels, covering it can simply transfer those problems into the new surface. In those situations we would recommend correcting the underlying construction first.

This is one of the most important differences between a good resin installation and one that looks fine initially but fails prematurely. You can also read our guide to why resin driveways fail and our explanation of the best base for a resin driveway.

How We Assess an Existing Driveway

Before recommending an overlay, we assess the surface condition, cracking or movement, drainage, falls, finished levels, edges and any areas that may require repair. We will also consider whether the existing construction is appropriate for the proposed use.

If you are unsure what is underneath your driveway, that is normal. Send us photographs first and we can usually tell you what we need to inspect more closely during a survey.

How Much Does a Resin Overlay Cost?

The price depends on the size of the area, condition of the existing surface, preparation and repairs required, access, drainage, edging and your chosen resin blend. A suitable overlay normally involves less excavation than a complete new driveway, but it should never be specified purely to reduce the price if the existing base is not good enough. Send us clear photos of the existing driveway, your postcode and approximate measurements on WhatsApp and we can give you an initial view on whether an overlay is worth assessing.

For broader pricing guidance, see our 2026 resin driveway cost guide.
